Bancroft operates under a Mayor-Council form of government with an appointed Administrator.
The City Council consists of five City Council members elected at large, for overlapping terms of four years. The Mayor is also elected for a term of four years.
City Council meetings are held on the second Monday of the month beginning at 7:00 PM and are open to the public. Council meetings are normally held at City Hall.

Under section 372.13 and 69.12 of the Iowa Code the council of the City of Bancroft intends to appoint officials to elected positions as a result of vacancies in the positions of Council Person and Mayor.
These appointments shall be for the period until the next pending election in November 2010 as defined in section 69.12 of the Iowa Code. |
