Bancroft Utilities

The City of Bancroft has its own electric utility.  The electrical generating plant was built in 1939.  Was updated in 1948, 1954, and again in 2001.  The total generating capacity for the plant is 4.4 megawatts.

Bancroft has long term contracts with Corn Belt Power and owns over 2 mega watts in Neal 4.

Currently the City is working on putting more electric lines underground to reduce the chances of outages due to weather.

The Utility has over 68 miles of electric rural line.
The current electric rates are:
Residential Electric Rate: Service Charge, $8.50 per month; energy charge, $0.064 per KWHr.
Commercial Electric Rate: Service Charge, $9.50 per month; energy charge, $0.064 per KWHr.
Rural Electric Rate:  Service Charge, $17.50 per month; energy charge, $0.064 per KWHr.
Minimum bill being $17.50 or $1.00 per KVA of transformer capacity required, whichever is greater
Optional Demand Rate:  Demand charge:  all kilowatts at $3.20 per KW.  Energy Charge: all energy at $0.0545 per KWHr.  Minimum bill: $1.00 per H.P. and/or KV connected load.
There is a power cost adjustment for all of the above rates.  The Electric Utility has not had to use this PCA in over five years, keeping electricity very affordable for its customers.
